Vekoma Mila Rose Rolls Late To Stay Perfect At Keeneland

Keeneland announced Thursday that Mila Rose remained undefeated after a commanding late-stretch performance in an allowance race worth $120,000.

The 3-year-old daughter of Vekoma delivered a powerful closing run to secure her second career victory, finishing a length ahead of Wisconsin Gal in Thursday’s eighth race.

Sent off as the 7-5 favorite, Mila Rose overcame early positioning challenges after being shuffled to mid-pack shortly after the break. Jockey Joe Ramos guided the filly through traffic around the far turn before unleashing a decisive move at the quarter pole.

The Steven Asmussen trainee completed the six-furlong contest in 1:12.66 over a fast main track.

This victory marks a successful surface transition for Mila Rose, who won her debut by 3 1/2 lengths over Turfway Park’s synthetic surface on March 6.

Owned by the partnership of West Point Thoroughbreds, Michael P. Lyden and Michael W. Olszewski, Mila Rose has now earned $119,493 from her two starts.

The Kentucky-bred filly, a $50,000 weanling purchase at the 2022 Keeneland November Sale, later commanded $130,000 at the 2024 OBS March Two-Year-Old Sale.

Mila Rose is out of Lucky Lady Lawyer (by Lawyer Ron), whose half-sister Jump On It (Jump Start) is a graded stakes winner who has produced multiple stakes winners. The dam has a 2-year-old filly by Army Mule and was bred to Mitole this season.

Wisconsin Gal (Army Mule) finished second in the allowance contest.
